More than 250 community leaders, elected officials, family and friends of slain anti-Marcos activists Silme Domingo and Gene Viernes gathered at the Seattle Labor Temple on March 20th to commemorate their lives and work.

The commemoration also launched the new book, Summary Execution: The Seattle Assassinations of Silme Domingo and Gene Viernes, authored by human-rights attorney Michael Withey. A first-hand account of their murders and the decade long struggle for justice, the book describes how the families won a precedent-setting jury verdict holding former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his allies liable for the murders.

A newly-released video of this event showcases how the Seattle community, including many public interest organizations involved in the justice efforts has, once again, come together to seek justice for all of those involved in the murders and cover-up, including the Reagan Administration’s FBI.

The video describes a new petition drive demanding that the Seattle FBI office release more than 1200 pages of withheld documents related to an FBI informant sent to the scene of the murders who then perjured himself in an attempt to exonerate the hit-men, hired by the Marcos regime.

Silme’s sister Cindy Domingo, has co-edited a book, A Time to Rise, Collective Memoirs of the Union of Democratic Filipinos which examines the personal histories of the members of the Union of Democratic Filipinos (KDP) that Gene and Silme helped lead, who bravely opposed the Marcos regime and fought for the democratic rights of Filipinos.
